Racing into 6 and 4: a checkered-flag cake for Myles and Madden

Two brothers, two birthdays, one cake — and both boys had to be able to point at their own bit of it.

Solving the two-ages problem

The trick with a shared cake is that neither name can look like an afterthought. Myles and Madden are piped in black script one above the other on the front, same size, same style.

Then the ages get their own moment: a 6 and a 4 in bright blue, each mounted on its own checkered flag standing off the side of the cake. Nobody has to share a number.

The track

A panel of black-and-white checkerboard runs down one side of the pale blue buttercream and then keeps going — spilling off the cake and onto the board like a strip of track laid out beside it.

Fondant tires sit around the base with their treads and hubs pressed in. Balloons in blue, black and white cluster up one side, and a sculpted black race car parks on top, with two checkered flags flying above it.
