How far ahead should you order a cake?

This is far and away the question I get asked most, usually starting with "I know this is probably too late, but..."

So let me save you the worry.

The short answer

Two to three weeks is comfortable for most cakes. That gives me time to talk through what you want, order anything special, and fit you into the week without rushing.

Weddings and large orders — give me a couple of months if you can. There's more to plan, more to build, and usually a tasting involved.

The longer answer

Some weeks fill up faster than others. Weekends in May and December go first, every year without fail. Graduations, weddings, and everything the holidays bring all land in the same handful of Saturdays.

If you already know you'll need a cake for one of those, tell me early. Even a "nothing firm yet, but keep me in mind for the 16th" helps.

But ask anyway

Here's the part I want you to hear: always ask.

Plans change, orders shift, and sometimes I have a Thursday open that I didn't expect. I'd much rather bake you a cake on short notice than have you go without one because you assumed I was full.

The worst I can say is that I can't fit it in. That takes ten seconds to find out.

Text me at 402-741-0463 with your date and roughly how many people you're feeding, and I'll tell you straight away whether it works.
