Twice the reason to celebrate: a cake for Dad and Mom

Two birthdays close enough together to share a cake. That's a nice problem to have, and it makes for a better cake than either one would have got alone.

A frame, not a scatter

The whole border is rosettes — big ones, piped in a continuous spiral, in three tones that shade into each other: soft blush, deeper rose gold, and ivory. They're packed edge to edge the whole way round, so it reads as one thick frame rather than a row of separate flowers.

Between them go small dark green leaves and little stars in the same blush and ivory, filling every gap. That's the part that makes a rosette border look finished instead of gappy.

The rose gold has a shimmer to it that catches the light and lifts the whole thing — it's what stops soft pink from reading as flat.

Leaving the middle alone

Everything is pushed to the edges so the centre can stay calm. Blush buttercream, and the message piped in dark script big enough to read across a room.

Happy Birthday Dad & Mom. Both names, one cake, no arguing over whose it is.
